Can you guess where, in which country and which city, this façade is located?
The answer: in France, in Paris... (A more traditional building can be seen in the background...). These photos were taken in an exceptional low-cost housing estate in the 20th arrondissement, whose facades were designed to be covered in wisteria and vegetation, and which boasts gardens that include banana trees!

A misappropriation of a street name is often an amusing wink to the 'pedestrians of Paris'. For me, there's nothing funny about this image: it takes me back with a touch of nostalgia to this neighbourhood that I walked for more than 12 years, the Ménilmontant theatre has been closed since 2018 and not only has the 'labour' law not been withdrawn, but its instigators are currently continuing their social break-up by attacking the most vulnerable even more...

A "double look" at one of the doors of the Swiss cultural center located at 38 rue des Francs Bourgeois in the Marais district of Paris. Founded in 1985, the center is currently undergoing renovations until 2025, but offers interventions throughout France during this period...

On November 1, 1999, 3 friends broke into 59 rue de Rivoli in Paris. This Haussmann building had been abandoned for 8 years, and a dozen artists moved in and welcomed the public. The Squat was threatened with eviction, but in 2001, the new municipal team bought the building and signed an occupancy agreement with the artists. This paved the way for the creation of other artistic spaces in Paris.

SPRING CLEANING...
"Wildcard" image (it temporarily replaces the others ;-) n°1 : Scattered self-portrait n°1
13 months ago, I relaunched this site and set up a daily publication "The Daily Snapshot" . Since then, the site has received almost 58,000 visits and (even if I don't forget the bots) it's been great fun! Looking at the galleries I've built up, I thought that a little tidying up/categorizing of the images might make it easier to rediscover them, and that's what I'm going to start doing... So I'm going to suspend the publication of new daily photos for a while and present you with new galleries made up of the best published photos grouped by theme. The existing galleries will remain available for consultation ... Happy rediscovering and THANK YOU again for your faithful curiosity!

At a time when a new attack on social protection in France has just been announced, I'd like to share with you a photo taken during a demonstration against the "labour law" in 2016. It was taken on Boulevard de Port-Royal in Paris, through the windows of the "Terrasse Saint-Jacques" bar and restaurant. On this occasion (and under tear gas) it was the hopes that the demonstrators had placed in THOSE whom they had elected by a majority, that were experiencing their first "mise en bière"... (this expression corresponds in French to the burial of a coffin).

In 2016, lovers were still hanging padlocks with their initials on Paris bridges... This habit, combined with the weight of the padlocks, eventually undermined the structure of the embankments on some bridges, such as the Pont des Arts. This has led the City of Paris to replace them with Plexiglas plates where padlocks can no longer be hung...

As the river continues to recede, I have no doubt that in a few weeks' time the banks of the Vézère will once again be accessible, as in this photo taken in October 2019... The Vézère can be a violent river, but the valley's inhabitants are impressively resilient.

On December 14, after several days of pumping, the water began to recede, and I was able to return to the heart of Montignac Lascaux to see just how far the water had progressed since December 11 and my previous photos... Today, we can hope that the recession will continue, and to finish off, here are 3 photos to give you an idea of how high the water has risen in two days...
